The ComCentrix L1501 peripheral I/O solution integrates Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 functionality and the USB 2.0 transceiver macrocell interface with a comprehensive set of standard I/Os

The ComCentrix L1501 peripheral I/O solution from LSI Logic integrates Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 functionality and the USB 2.0 transceiver macrocell interface (UTMI) with a comprehensive set of standard I/Os. The implementation of the USB 2.0 allows the L1501 to process data at rates of up to 480Mbit/s.

This single-chip solution replaces four separate devices thereby lowering component cost by 30% and significantly reducing system development time.

"The ComCentrix L1501 is an off-the-shelf peripheral I/O solution that allows our customers to reduce product costs while maintaining exceptional performance", said Ahmad Khanssari, director of networking product marketing for LSI Logic.

"High speed USB 2.0 opens the door to new levels of innovation.

Our expertise in SoC design enables us to offer a solution that meets both the performance and sensitive cost requirements of the multi-I/O market".

In addition to USB 2.0, the L1501 provides a comprehensive set of I/O standards in a single chip such as an Ethernet 10/100, IEEE1284 parallel port and IrDA port for evolving wireless handheld Internet appliances.

For added flexibility, the ComCentrix device uses the industry standard 32bit, 33MHz PCIbus to interface with the embedded system controller.

The L1501 offers the following features and benefits: 10/100 Ethernet MAC with DMA controller for network connectivity; USB 2.0 compliant device controller with integrated DMA controller supports low and full speed connectivity along with FIFOs for nine active USB endpoints; IEEE1284 parallel port with integrated DMA controller and transmit and receive FIFOs; IrDA port with integrated DMA for point-to-point connectivity of Internet and wireless appliances; two UARTs and two independent and programmable timers; nine general-purpose I/Os can be programmed individually as input or output port; 32bit, 33MHz PCIbus to interface with the embedded controller As part of the ComCentrix product offering, LSI Logic provides its customers with a comprehensive development system to accelerate design and product development including a ComCentrix PCI card.

I/O drivers for ComCentrix running under Linux OS will be available in Q3 2002 to facilitate product evaluation.

The L1501 is housed in a 208-pin plastic quad flat pack (PQFP) and is priced at $13.00 each in 10K piece quantities.

Samples will be available in July with volume production quantities in Q4, 2002.
