DVB-T receiver chip
provides diversity reception
The L64782 COFDM receiver is the third-generation chip in the family of highly integrated, high-performance solutions for digital terrestrial TV (DTT) broadcast from LSI Logic
LSI Logic has shipped over two million units of COFDM (coded orthogonal frequency division multiplex) receivers to the DVB-T market. Building on this experience, the company has significantly enhanced the L64782 to place it in a market-leading position in anticipation of the European analogue switch off.

Paul O'Donovan, senior analyst, consumer applications, in the European semiconductor group of Gartner Dataquest, predicts that: "The digital terrestrial set-top box market will expand at a compound growth rate of 78% between 2001 and 2006, compared to cable and satellite which will grow at only 14%.
Currently 55% of European television households receive terrestrial broadcasts only.
This represents a notable non-pay-television market opportunity for digital terrestrial".
Through close collaboration with the BBC, the L64782 was designed to be fully compliant with DVB-T standards and exceed the most rigorous performance requirements of broadcasters for terrestrial receivers.
It was developed for integration in digital terrestrial television adaptors, set-top boxes, and integrated digital televisions (iDTV) and features significant architectural enhancements over the previous generation, yielding higher performance with a reduced bill of materials.

Enhancements include optimisation for SFN echo conditions, improved mobile performance - especially in diversity mode addressing real world reception issues - and the simplification of device configuration and operation.
Kenroy Francis, director of marketing for DTV Satellite and Terrestrial Products, LSI Logic, commented: "The expected growth in DTT will be driven largely by improved performance, enhanced feature sets and the reduced cost of reception equipment.
LSI Logic's proven record and long term commitment to DTT - in terms of three generations of products that have been successful both in technological innovation and sales volumes - makes us well positioned to benefit from the move to digital terrestrial ahead of analogue switch-off across Europe".
The SC2000/2005 is the company's family of flexible decoder solutions for the digital terrestrial, satellite and cable set-top box markets.
The SC2000 and SC2005 can be combined with the LSI Logic family of decoders, including the L64782 (terrestrial), L64736 (satellite), L2151 (cable).
The AViA-9600 processor is also available for cable set-top boxes.
In addition, LSI Logic provides ASIC, standard-product and CoreWare offerings in LAN (1394, USB, Ethernet), WLAN (802.11, Bluetooth, HomeRF), access (DSL and cable), and digital entertainment (DVR, DVD, MP3) for convergence boxes driving the networked digital home.
New features in the L64782 include: direct IF input; a digital channel filter; a diversity combination interface; improved Doppler immunity and cochannel interference performance; an embedded microcontroller; and enhanced performance.
