The unique properties of LiNbO3 modulators make them attractive devices for a variety of applications outside of the commonly used 1550nm window. Fibre optic sensors, laser material processing and general time and frequency shaping of ytterbium fibre lasers light are a few examples of applications in the 850-1000nm region. Photline's NIR-LN family of intensity and phase modulators for 1064nm and the near-infra-red region offers modulation solutions to deal with new and emerging applications.
These modulators offer high bandwidth performance and operating rise time of only tens of picoseconds.
NIR-LN modulators' waveguides are manufactured using a proton exchange process, which is the sole technology at that wavelength that leads to sufficient optical power threshold to avoid wavelength conversion via photorefractive effects.
They can withstand up to several hundred milliwatts of optical power at 1064nm.
