The CMD-LN-40 is a compact module integrating both the electrical driver and the optical modulator in the same package. The overall device dimensions are close to those specified in the 300-pin multisource agreement. The CMD-LN-40 offers significant benefits to 40Gbit/s system designers.
The RF line is kept straight from the input connector to the modulator electrodes in order to preserve the integrity of the RF transmission and conversely the input optical waveguide is bent.
The RF input connector takes the place of the input PM fibre while the optical input to the modulator enters sideways at an angle of 28 degrees.
The 40Gbit/s NRZ eye diagram obtained with 450mV driving voltage exhibits apertures of 80% and an RMS jitter lower than 1ps.
