Novel transmitter brings Easy Radio to hand
Low Power Radio Solutions has gone back to the drawing board with the design of its latest transmitter.

Low Power Radio Solutions has gone back to the drawing board with the design of its latest transmitter. The ER400PEN is a fully self-contained low-power transmitter, capable of performing up to seven functions, and making full use of the company's highly acclaimed Easy Radio technology to provide "bullet-proof" telecommand and control at ranges up to 100m. According to Managing Director Barry Gillibrand: "When we came to look at the sorts of applications to which our users were putting our transmitter modules, we realised that we could incorporate the vast majority of the functions into a single packaged unit.
This means that even low-volume users can take advantage of the economies of our higher-volume manufacturing without having to reinvent the wheel every time they want a slightly different transmitter design".
On the radio front, the transmitter meets all the requirements of ETS300-220 for use in the pan-European 434MHz ISM band.
Output power is a robust 10mW, providing up to 100m line-of-site range when used with a suitable receiver module, such as the ER400RS, from the LPRS Easy Radio family.
One area in which the ER400PEN is radically different is in its striking exterior design.
Rather than using the traditional "housebrick" enclosure design, LPRS has based the new transmitter on a novel ergonomic "teardrop" shape which has been carefully designed to fit comfortable in the hand, while offering a full range of "personal" accessories, including a keyfob, a belt clip and a novel lanyard with an anti-choke mechanism for use as a pendant.
The transmitter can also be wall mounted or suspended as a pull cord, and features a flat area for the incorporation of text or a company logo.
Controls comprise two pushbuttons mounted on opposite sides of the case and a unique emergency pull feature.
Both buttons must be squeezed simultaneously to operate the transmitter, greatly reducing the likelihood of false triggering.
Three coloured LEDs provide status information.
This combination of features, combined with the option for up to seven different programmable output codes means that the ER400PEN is the ideal transmitter for applications ranging from simple appliance remote controls to personal panic alarms and multifunction medical alert systems.
In addition, its low power consumption means that users should be able to operate the transmitter for at least three years before needing to replace the battery.
