Lightconnect has signed a strategic agreement with ZTE Corp, China's largest listed telecommunications equipment manufacturer. Under the terms of the agreement, Lightconnect will supply its dynamic gain equaliser (DGE) for ZTE's SXWM160 system, a 10Gbit/s long-haul DWDM transport system with 160 channels operating in the C and L bands. ZTE evaluated several vendors and selected Lightconnect based on demonstrated levels of reliability and stability, and overall price/performance.

ZTE is China's first optical systems manufacturer to implement dynamic gain equalisation technology in its long-haul transport product offering.

The implementation of Lightconnect's DGE will eliminate expensive regeneration systems and reduce total system costs.

ZTE's customers include China Telecom, China Unicom and China Netcom.

"Service providers are increasingly demanding improved performance at lower costs.

The combined offering of ZTE and Lightconnect fits this criteria, bringing us one step closer to realising a truly intelligent optical network", said Peter O Clark, Lightconnect President and CEO.

"As China's leading telecommunications equipment manufacturer, ZTE is well-poised to accelerate advancements in the region, and we look forward to being a part of the developments".

Lightconnect's DGE is available in C, L and extended bands for DWDM systems.

It has exceeded all stringent Telcordia GR-1209 requirements for reliability and stability, and has been shipping since the autumn of 2001.
