New from LeCroy are the first three members of a family of high-performance WaveLink series probes. The probes are designed for use with high-performance oscilloscopes, disk drive analysers, serial data analysers or in the near future spectrum analysers and network analysers. All three new probes can be used for both differential and single-ended signal acquisition.
The model D600 (7.5GHz bandwidth), D300 (4GHz bandwidth) and D200 (2.5GHz bandwidth) probes all incorporate a SiGe front end and Adjustable Twintip technology which allows the user to set the spacing of the probe tips in a continuously variable fashion.
The bandwidth rating is typical for the probe as a stand-alone device.
When used with a 6GHz LeCroy WaveMaster, DDA (disk drive analyser) or SDA (serial data analyser), the WaveLink D600 delivers a full 6GHz system bandwidth.
The D300 supports a system bandwidth of 3GHz when used with LeCroy SDA, WaveMaster and WavePro products that have 3GHz bandwidth.
Similarly the WaveLink model 200 provides system bandwidth of 2GHz at the probe tip when used with a 2GHz LeCroy instrument.
The Adjustable TwinTip, which comes with all models, allows a maximum distance between the tips of three tenths of 6mm, while at a minimum the probes can be adjusted until the spacing is zero (the tips touch each other).
The user controls the spacing with a thumbwheel adjustment similar to that which controls the focal length of binoculars.
