Cove Broadcast has developed the industry's first digital optical link for remote camera broadcast operation using Lemo connectors

Cove Broadcast has developed the industry's first digitaloptical link for remote camera broadcast operation using Lemoconnectors. Lemo's range of high performance fibre opticscamera connectors have been developed to meet the needs of thenew generation of digital TV cameras forming the basis of theSMPTE, ARIB and EBU standards.

The Lemo 3K.93C connector has beenfully tested, is TUV approved and has been designed into HDTVapplications such as the Sony BVP9500 super slow motion cameraand CCU.

As demand for the benefits of digital transmissionincreases and supporting new technologies emerge, companies areseeking the benefits of using a tried and tested connectionsystem.

The Cove Z Link is designed to replace cumbersome andheavy addon boxes and interconnecting cables such as Triax, making it ideal for all broadcasters and in particular outsidebroadcasters.

It uses fibre optics to give transmission distancesup to 10km with no loss of video or audio transmission quality. All three versions of Z Link consist of a camera unit and a baseunit and are compatible with all professional broadcast cameras.Unlike any other system, the Z Link handles broadcast qualityvideo, return video, program audio, talk back and auxiliary datawithout the need for addons.

This unique product uses a hybridfibre/copper cable to provide the power to the camera unit - thistechnology has not been used in the broadcast industry before, and will totally replace the need for a triax system.

It isavailable in two models; Hybrid 100 (100W) and Hybrid Max200(200W).

The connector system needs to be reliable and Cove hasselected the Lemo 3K.93C connector having researched the marketfor the best connectors.

All Lemo connectors are based on therugged, reliable Lemo push-pull latching system.

This systemenables the connectors to be mated by simply pushing together, after which it provides a safe connection that cannot bedisrupted by pulling on the cable.

Disconnection is achieved bypushing back the outer latch sleeve.

Housing options includeinline plugs and inline receptacles suitable for all cables;panel sockets, including the camera connector, panel-mountedplugs for CCUs, walls or outside broadcast van tailboards as wellas bulkhead sockets and adapters, for both inside and outsidebroadcast applications around the world.

A full range ofaccessories is available, including cable strain reliefs, blanking caps and waterproof strain reliefs with caps.

Lemo alsooffers a cable termination service and for fibre-optic connectorsthis includes full optical test facilities to ensure first classconnection.
