VxWin software from Kuka Controls has been selected as the basis for the US Navy's SLBM weapons training system

The SLBM training system is being developed to train sailors on the Navy's SLBM weapons systems. The VxWin based simulator runs the same software as the actual weapons system and provides realistic and deterministic behaviour while eliminating the need for actual weapons system hardware. VxWin was chosen because it meets the Navy's stringent performance, open platform and reliability requirements.

Use of a single computer lowers the hardware requirements and reduces the system size while running the same software deployed on the actual weapon systems.

'The use of VxWin greatly reduces our cost and increases the effectiveness of our SLBM training programme', notes Stanley Palivoda.

'The proper training of our sailors is one of the highest priorities of the Navy and this system helps us meet that goal cost-effectively'.

The SLBM weapons training system provides a real-time simulation of the weapons systems deployed aboard SSBN (guided missile launching) submarines.

The SSBN class submarines have the ability to carry 24 ballistic missiles and accurately deliver them to targets anywhere in the world.

The simulators will train both existing personnel and new personnel on these launch systems.
