Innovision Research and Technology has concluded a new licensing deal for its flagship smart ticketing chip, Jewel. The new deal with Italian company, Smart Res, an independent manufacturer of RFID inlays, will enable Innovision R and T to strengthen its presence in the European market. Traditionally, Innovision R and T has had strong links across Europe, but is now focusing a proportion of its marketing efforts on developing business opportunities in continental Europe.

As a well-established Italian company, Smart Res (formerly WindingLab) already has a strong market presence in this region, with close links to many transit companies.

Smart Res has also successfully developed inlay production processes, which use innovative assembly techniques to embed RFID inlays into smart labels - enabling extremely competitive ticket prices to be achieved - and will work with ticket convertors across Europe and the Americas to deliver Jewel inlays to the transport sector.

'Having a strong, focused partner like Smart Res in Europe is crucial for Innovision's growth in 2006 and beyond', said Trevor Crotch-Harvey, Sales Director at Innovision Research and Technology.

'With its strong market presence and direct links to the Italian transit sector, Smart Res is extremely well placed to provide a springboard for Innovision and Jewel in the region's active transport market'.

Marcello Lolli, CEO of Smart Res, added: 'The combination of our unique inlay production process and Jewel's sise, flexibility and market leadership provides a very positive and powerful message to anyone looking at developing or implementing smart ticketing applications'.

'Our relationship with many of the leading ticket convertors across our own region, as well as in North and South America will play a significant role in strengthening our combined presence in these geographies'.
