Innovision Research and Technology, the European leader in RFID IC design, has appointed Heikki Huomo as Technical Director. He joins the company's IC design team in Cirencester, Gloucester from Nokia Ventures, Finland, where he was Director of Ubiquitous Communication. Commenting on his appointment, Huomo said: 'I am very excited to be joining Innovision'.
'I am personally committed to the near field communication 'touch' paradigm and Innovision will be at the heart of this revolution'.
'I see exciting times ahead'.
In his 10-year career with Nokia, Huomo established a very strong track record in developing challenging technical solutions to meet changing market needs.
He is especially well known in the industry as one of the fathers of NFC (near field communication) in the mobile phone context - this is very short range wireless RFID technology that provides easy and secure connection between devices without needing to go through complicated setup menus as well as having the capability to read and emulate RFID tags for ticketing and payments.
At Innovison R and T, Huomo will head up the technical design and development staff as the company continues its drive into new business areas.
Initially, he will concentrate on three main areas: the award-winning Jewel RFID chip - the smallest and lowest cost contactless ticketing chip in the world; next generation NFC semiconductor devices; and UHF RFID developments.
He will also represent Innovision R and T at the NFC Forum.
