Insignia enables Java on TI silicon

Insignia Solutions is working with Texas Instruments to offer its forthcoming mobile Java-enabling software to a range of TI silicon

This includes TI's widely adopted family of OMAP application processors for 2.5G and 3G mobile devices, on a variety of operating environments including Microsoft "Stinger" or Smartphone 2002 platform. Insignia's mobile handset provisioning-infrastructure software will enable mobile phones and wireless PDAs to download and run Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) mobile services including games, mobile commerce, business to business applications, email and personal management software.

In addition, Insignia and TI are collaborating on a variety of optimisations to further extend the rich media capabilities of TI OMAP processors for Java-enabled mobile devices.

"Insignia is leveraging its proven, market-leading Java heritage to become a key provider of essential enabling technology for mobile handsets", said Mark McMillan, president of Insignia Solutions.

"Through partnerships with semiconductor leaders such as TI, we will raise the bar on rich mobile capabilities for the entire mobile market".
