The EL7516 is a new highly efficient and fully integrated boost regulator with a selectable 600kHz or 1.2MHz switching frequency. This new boost convertor is ideally suited for thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) for computer monitors and TVs, and portable equipment applications such as digital cameras and GSM/CDMA cellphones. The EL7516 is a direct plug-in performance upgrade for many existing regulator sockets.

It features a 1.5A integrated FET which only has 200mohms on-resistance.

It can operate with supplies as low as 2.5V, which is required to support the latest generation of notebook designs and can also operate on 5V for monitor applications.

The selectable 600kHz or 1.2MHz switching frequency enables the highest efficiencies (greater than 90%) no matter what the input/output ratio.

Intersil's EL7516 is available now in the 8-pin Pb-free MSOP package with a maximum height of 1.1mm.

It is priced at $0.88 in 10,000-unit quantities.
