The ISL6405 is a novel dual-output low-noise block down-convertor supply and control voltage regulator IC

The ISL6405 is a novel dual-output low-noise block (LNB) down-convertor supply and control voltage regulator IC. The ISL6405 IC is the first of its kind and was specifically designed to save satellite set-top box manufacturers board space, parts count and costs for their set-top boxes. The ISL6405 is the only IC needed to provide independent power and functional control for two LNB modules located on the antenna of a two-channel satellite receiver system.

This dual-output device includes two current-mode boost pulsewidth modulation (PWM) controllers and two low-noise linear regulators.

The ISL6405 uses an industry-standard I2C interface to control internal functions.

The I2C registers also serve to allow the system to read fault conditions.

Each of the two independent power and control circuits puts out either 13 or 18V DC for LNB power.

Voltage compensation is available through a convenient line length compensation feature.

An internal 22kHz tone generator provides the capability to super-impose DiSEqC 1.1 coding on the supplies for LNB and antenna control.

The ISL6405 is available in both a 28-pin EPSOIC and a 32-pad QFN package.

'By working closely with our satellite systems customers, we became aware of their need to simplify the implementation of power and control functions for dual LNB systems', said Randy Roberts, Director of Intersil's Broadband Power Products.

'The ISL6405 is the industry's first and only single IC to provide the high degree of integration, performance and cost reduction that our customers were seeking'.
