In developing the new controllers, Intersil worked closely with AMD to provide the compatibility, cost effectiveness and performance required for AMD's advanced high performance 64bit processors.
AMD's Hammer technology is at the heart of the industry's first 64bit processors soon to be introduced for x86 computing.
It provides unparalleled performance on both 32 and 64bit software as well as a smooth migration path to the new 64bit software of tomorrow, while preserving the huge investment in today's 32bit software applications.

The Intersil Endura solution for AMD's next-generation processors is based on the new ISL6559, the industry's first two- to four-phase PWM controller optimised to power the soon-to-be-released Athlon and Opteron processors.
This robust controller interfaces with Intersil's mosfet drivers, which includes the single-channel HIP6601B, HIP6603B and HIP6604B and dual-channel HIP6602B.
The ISL6559 is offered in a 28-lead SOIC or 32-pad 5 x 5mm QFN package and is loaded with features that provide protection, precision, high convertor efficiency, and the lowest bill-of-materials cost.
Key features of the ISL6559 include: precise differential remote output voltage sensing; dynamic VIDT technology for "on-the-fly" VID changing; 5 or 12V supply operation; 1% accuracy; digital soft start; 4MHz output voltage ripple frequency; programmable droop voltage; threshold-sensitive enable input; and a pin-adjustable reference offset.
Mosfet on-resistance is used for current sensing to save space and component costs.
Evaluation platforms and a complete reference design are available now to assist engineers with evaluation and design-in.
The ISL6559EVAL1 is a VRM-style evaluation module, and the ISL6559EVAL2 is an embedded evaluation board.
Both are 100% compliant to the new AMD Opteron and Athlon power specifications.
