Regulator claims high-efficiency for portables
Intersil has extended its Endura range of power management solutions with a new system power regulator IC specifically optimised for PCs using LCDs
Featuring a power efficiency of 97%, the new ISL6235 provides integrated power control and protection with five output voltages for high efficiency power control in high-performance desktop or notebook PCs and PDAs with LCD screens. The new Endura ISL6235 offers the highest level of integration in the industry.

It integrates three pulse width modulator (PWM) controllers and two linear regulators into a single 24-pin SSOP package to provide five regulated voltages required for the CPU, peripheral circuitry and LCD display, with full monitoring and protection.
PCs using LCD displays are often only powered from an AC-DC wall adapter providing between 16 and 20V.
The new ISL6235 accommodates this high voltage input by operating directly from DC voltages from 5.6 to 24V and converts this to the system voltages required by the PC and display.
The Endura ISL6235 IC efficiently regulates all CPU and system electronics energy usage and delivers a highly integrated, multiple-output solution that simplifies design, reduces component count, increases system efficiency and lowers total layout size.
Additionally, the device enables lower-cost N-channel mosfets to be used in place of P-channel devices, further lowering the cost of the entire system while reducing the physical size of power control circuitry.
Intersil's Endura ISL6235 is available now in a 24-lead SSOP package.
