InduKey UK presents the next generation of vandal-proof stainless steel keyboards, InduSteel and InduSteel2. These stainless-steel keyboards have been specially developed for the POI market and for semisupervised or unsupervised applications. The InduSteel range offers the combined benefits of robust construction and quality data input making it the ideal choice for kiosk builders.
InduKey's Managing Director, Marco van der Linden, comments on the changing role of keyboards in the kiosk industry: 'Most internet based kiosks such as web payphones come with keyboards'.
'The clients who use these facilities are mostly web surfers and e-mail users and are more familiar with the use of keyboards'.
'In general touchscreens will remain popular for use in the public and retail sectors but keyboards will continue to be used for all kiosk types, especially in the fast growing internet based kiosks segment'.
The InduSteel range is ideally suited to 'hostile' public service environments such as information and multimedia terminal applications including libraries, shops and internet kiosks.
Sealed to IP65 standard, a silicon membrane between the keycaps and the silicon switching elements prevents any ingress of liquid and dust also making the range ideal for outdoor applications.
The InduSteel range comes with a brushed stainless steel front plate and key caps which protect the internal electronics from vandalism and heavy impact.
For user familiarity and to ensure ease of integration, the new device is based on the popular standard kiosk keyboard layout and footprint.
The range is available as keyboard only, with a 25 or 38mm stainless steel trackerball or touchpad.
The trackerball is sealed to IP65 standards when static and IP54 when in motion.
The touchpad is also sealed to IP65.
All legends are laser etched into the key caps which guarantees high wear and tear and excellent durability.
The InduSteel keyboards deliver high levels of resistance against shock and vibration and have a service life of more than 10 millions operations per key.
The keyboards have USB connectivity as well as PS/2.
With USB interface, the keyboard requires only a single cable for connection, instead of two for PS/2, reducing 'cable clutter' and allowing other peripherals to be connected at the host PC.
InduSteel keyboards can be SEMI or fully customised.
Other language layouts are also available.
