Interface Masters Technologies has added the Niagara 2813 Intelligent Bypass to its 10Gbit Intelligent Bypass Switch range.

The range integrates with inline networking devices, security appliances, central-office applications and out-of-band network-monitoring tools.

The Niagara 2813 Intelligent Bypass consists of one 10Gb bypass segment that possesses passive and active bypass-switch capabilities.

The active bypass feature enables seamless failover without interrupting the communication session in case of a software crash or link loss.

In addition, the system supports a 10Gb passive TAP port for complete and unintrusive visibility into bi-directional traffic.

The intelligent bypass also enables plug-and-play connectivity, includes an auto heartbeat, requires no additional drivers to be installed on connected appliances and features internal redundant power supplies for maximum reliability.

Niagara 2813's active-bypass capabilities ensure maximum uptime on any network-critical link.

During normal and healthy inline appliance operation, Niagara 2813 routes all network traffic through the inline appliance.

When Niagara 2813 detects an appliance malfunction such as a software crash, system failure or loss of power, the inline traffic continues to flow through the network link, but is no longer routed through the inline device.

This ensures that network devices can be removed and replaced without network downtime.

Once the system is back up or the power is restored to the appliance, network traffic is seamlessly diverted back to the inline device, allowing it to resume its critical functions.

The passive TAP port enables out-of-band monitoring devices such as IDS systems, RMON probes and sniffers to passively capture full-duplex traffic without altering or interrupting traffic flow.

The Niagara 2813 10 Gbit Intelligent Active bypass is managed by a 64-bit MIPS controller that supports a variety of control and management capabilities.

The system provides flexible and intuitive CLI and GUI management features, including secure web UI via an HTTPS connection, secure shell (SSH), SNMP, e-mail notification for special events, and bypass method configuration and passive TAP set-up and management.

It supports an authentication client capable of interfacing with authentication servers such as TACACS+ and Radius.

In addition, the system possesses Syslog support, enabling consolidation of log data from various systems into a central repository.

This feature provides management, traceability and security auditing across a variety of devices and receivers on multiple platforms.
