Processors power French multiservice gateways
French set-top systems innovator Freebox has selected IDT Interprise processors to power its new multiservice customer premises equipment (CPE) boxes
These boxes are initially being deployed in Paris, France by Free, the country's second largest Internet services provider (ISP) with plans to broaden the availability of this service to other areas of France in the coming years. In addition to the adoption of the IDT Interprise processors, Freebox leveraged the IDT 79RP351 ADSL reference design, a jointly developed solution from IDT and ST Microelectronics (formerly Alcatel Microelectronics), to capitalise on a time to market advantage for their products.

Unlike competitive offerings, the IDT solutions deliver an unprecedented combination of integration and performance to enable the Freebox CPE boxes to support data services such as Internet access for PCs as well as video on demand (VoD) and voice services, making it one of the first true ADSL-based multimedia systems.
This unique capability has allowed Freebox to create products that deliver unlimited Internet access with a maximum capacity of 1Mbit/s, television transmission and voice telephony for its customer base.
"Because our next-generation CPE box includes more functionality than competitive data-only ADSL products, we required a device that offered the right balance of a high-performance CPU core, a range of on-chip interfaces and the integration of peripherals.
The IDT Interprise RC32351 and RC32355 integrated communications processors met these needs perfectly", said Sebastien Boutruche, Research and Development Manager, Freebox.
"Further, the IDT 79RP351 ADSL reference design provided a comprehensive solution that accelerated the Freebox product development cycle and enabled us to bring our product to market faster".
