IDT has released the industry's first 9Mbit monolithic synchronous dual-port products

These devices operate at speeds up to 200MHz, making them the fastest in the industry, and also include a unique set of features that ensures maximum flexibility and performance, making them suitable for mobile wireless and core/metro infrastructure markets. By contrast, competitive devices offering 9Mbit of true dual-port storage rely on multiple dice within the package, resulting in a restriction on performance and a loss of the address counter functions.

In addition, the new IDT family is pin-compatible with the company's existing x36 and x18 synchronous dual-port devices, enabling an easy upgrade with minimal board changes.

Expanding on the functionality found in the company's existing products, the IDT synchronous dual-port devices are the first dual-port products to include collision detection and sleep mode features, representing a significant advancement compared to current synchronous multi-port devices.

Collision detection allows the device to conduct an address comparison and report a collision between both ports, reducing the need for separate off-chip arbitration circuits, thereby allowing designers to use fewer components and optimise board space.

The new sleep mode feature enables the device to minimise power consumption, even when the port is at TTL level inputs, by limiting the port's power consumption to full standby levels.

Other features include the addition of synchronous interrupts, a feature that provides a "software" tool for interport communication.
