Flexible programs for
content inspection processor

IDT is shipping the latest version of its complete classification processing software development kit for its PAX.port family of classification and content inspection processors

Integrated Device Technology is shipping the latest version of its complete classification processing software development kit (SDK) for its PAX.port family of classification and content inspection processors. The company has acheived full, wire-speed OC-48 classification on its PAX.ware 2500 evaluation system for its PAX.port 2500 classification and content inspection processor.

PAX.works 3.4 is used to prototype, test, and debug complex classification, content inspection and regular expression matching that enables intelligent application management in next-generation networking equipment.

This release offers significantly reduced host memory footprint, and faster classification generation time.

It also provides a better guarantee of throughput at wire rates.

Based on an open, fourth-generation pattern description language, PAX.ware 3.4 provides the ultimate programming flexibility for classification and content inspection processing.

This programming language makes it easier to program complex classification because it can represent any communications protocol header or regular expression as a pattern of bits in a standard text file based on a predefined format and syntax, including protocols that have fixed and variable length fields.

As a result, developers of telecommunications networking equipment do not have to restrict the packet processing power of their equipment based on protocol boundaries, search key length limitations, or rule complexities.

The PAX.port 2500 is an application specific standard product (ASSP) classification processor that can be used in a streaming architecture to achieve multigigabit packet processing and classification.

It performs Layer 2-4 classification and is optimised for full Layer-7 content inspection and regular expression matching at OC-48 line rates in web switches, load balancers, multi-service switches, IP services gateways, cable modem termination systems (CMTS), edge routers, protocol analysers and fixed broadband wireless access stations.

The PAX.ware 2500 is the first in a series of evaluation systems that will be released based on the PAX.port 2500.

Future systems will be designed to work seamlessly with leading network processors, including the new Intel IXP2400 and IXP2800 network processors.
