Imagination Technologies has been awarded a Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2004 for its groundbreaking work in DAB digital radio technology. Hossein Yassaie, CEO, Imagination Technologies, says: "We are honoured to receive this award, which constitutes an important endorsement of our hard work and achievement as a company. The award clearly recognises the company's capability and accomplishment in the creation of commercially successful leading-edge intellectual property".
Imagination Technologies won the award for its innovative Meta processor, which is capable of efficiently running several software programs simultaneously.
Its use in consumer electronics products enables cost and power consumption to be reduced, as fewer processors are needed.
Complemented by Ensigma broadcast technologies, the Meta processor is at the heart of the vast majority of new, low cost digital radio receivers, such as the Pure Evoke-1, which have revolutionised this market.
Imagination Technologies' IP for DAB from its Metagence and Ensigma divisions has been licensed by Frontier Silicon, a UK-based fabless semiconductor company.
The technologies are used in radios from Pure Digital, a division of Imagination Technologies, as well as other leading consumer electronics brands.
The company has previously won Queen's Awards for Technical Achievement in 1992 and for International Trade and Innovation in 2000 with its graphics technology, PowerVR.
