Precision resistors aid high-current measurement
Isabellenhuette has extended the resistance range of both its BVS and BVE low-value SMD current sensing resistors and has expanded the range with the BVR and BRS resistors.
Isabellenhuette has extended the resistance range of both its BVS and BVE low-value SMD current sensing resistors and has added new versions of the BVR and BRS resistors.
All parts in these ranges are made of a sandwich of either copper/Manganin/copper or copper/Aluchrome/copper composite material.
With resistance values of less than 1mohm, the BVS and BVE are suited to high-current applications, even above 100A.
Precision resistor type BVS (size 3920) has been extended to a resistance value of 4mohm and can now be used in temperature ranges above 170C.
The guaranteed drift is still less than 0.5%.
Thanks to its special structure, the BRS has been designed for resistance values up to 10mohm with a nominal power rating of 2W.
The BVR device has been developed for automotive applications that use DCB and IMS substrates requiring constant temperature cycles between -40 and +170C below nominal load.
The design of the resistor reduces shear stress, and the four-terminal connections allow TC values below 50ppm/C.
All four SMD current sensing resistors in the BVx family cover a resistance range of 0.2 to 10mohm, with power loss dissipation up to 5W (BVE) as well as continuous currents of up to 100A.
If designers need to reduce power dissipation on their substrates the BVS and BVE devices can be spot welded in punched grids or busbars.
Four-terminal connections can be attained by the geometry of punched grids or busbar.
All the components are surface mount, covered with an antitarnishing film, and delivered on tape and reel.
They are packed in a sealed and dry nitrogen filled housing and so can be stored without problems, maintaining solderability over a long period.
