Suited to high-density requirements, RJ connectors from Hypertac find numerous applications in the connection of dual-cavity MCM (multichip module) packages to a PCB, the stacking of several MCM packages, and the interconnection of PCBs and daughterboards. Unique to this solution is a mechanical play of 0.8mm minimum within the interconnect, which eliminates the problem of tolerances between MCM and/or PCBs.

The RJ connector is designed to be compliant with single- and dual-sided MCM packages, and is ideal for the interconnection of complex MCMs with more than 900 I/Os.
The RJ connector is based on the FF contact, which essentially comprises a male pin that includes two elastic wires folded back on themselves.
When inserted into the female contact, these wires create four simultaneous, independent points of contact.

The RJ connector is formed by combining an FF contact with a compression spring, which is held in place by two buttons.
This compression spring enables these two buttons to float, taking up any slack due to tolerance variation.
A leeway of 0.8mm can be catered for.
Key characteristics of the RJ connector that make them ideal for the high-performance requirements of high-density PCB and MCM applications include modularity, easy disassembly, the possibility of large assembly fittings, high power dissipation, negligible insertion force and a working temperature range of -55 to +125C.
The connectors also withstand harsh environments, such as high humidity, rated to 56 days, corrosion, rated to 96 hours, rapid temperature variations and dry heat.
They fall into the environmental category 434.
With four simultaneous, independent contact areas, the RFF contact provides a very high degree of vibration resistance, similar to that of the Hypertac Hyperboloid Contact.
This new contact design is also ideal for micro-current applications.
Thanks to the geometrical design of the contact, it offers excellent electrical and mechanical performance.
Specifications include rated currents up to 1A and a total contact resistance of 25mOhm (including the two PCB connections), a working voltage of 160V RMS, and an insulation resistance over 10GOhm.
Furthermore, low levels of stress inherent in the design of the contact ensure durability.
