HiTek Power has invested in Autodesk Inventor mechanical CAD software and added its own enhancement in the form of an innovative soundtrack for Inventor's silent movie facility. The resulting system is offering significant productivity increases by providing detailed training movies for the first build of both standard and custom power supplies, as well as familiarisation training for production operatives when they move to a new product line. The new system removes a complete stage in the design-to-production process.

HiTek Power had been preparing designs in AutoCAD and then taking digital photographs for assembly information.

However, the first unit had to be built unaided before photographs could be taken.

Using Inventor with its movie facility and the added soundtrack allows all the necessary assembly information to be created virtually.

Each manufacturing workstation has a flat-panel display and an earpiece - served over the network, so there is no longer a need to go to the print room for drawings, which then have to be interpreted.

Inventor has been integrated with HiTek Power's existing printed circuit board design software, so the complete design path now runs seamlessly from circuit design, through circuit board design, to electronic packaging.

The mechanical information can include the circuit board, aiding the assembly process.

Metalwork files can be transmitted directly to the metalwork manufacturer.

The design work with the new system is a little more complex, but great savings are being made in terms of time and cost by products being right first time.

An additional benefit for HiTek Power is that the soundtrack script can be issue-controlled, ensuring that production is always up to date.

Benefits for customers of HiTek Power's standard and custom power supplies include a quicker time to market, and easy and immediate revisions when designs are changed.
