FPGA module boosts conversion performance
A new FPGA module builds on the success of the Heron-IO2V module in markets like software defined radio, telecommunications research and electron microscopy
Building on the success of the Heron-IO2V module in markets like software defined radio, telecommunications research and electron microscopy, Hunt Engineering has released Heron-IO5. The Heron-IO5 has a choice of 1.5 million or 3million gate Virtex-II FPGA with two channels of 12bit 210MHz A/D and two channels of 16bit 160MHz D/A.

VHDL tutorials and examples speed the development of common applications like digital down conversion, digital filtering etc.
The module can be used in a stand-alone mode using the Heron-Base1 carrier, or as part of a PCI or Compact PCI system using HEPC9 and HECPCI9 module carriers.
In such systems multiple modules can be combined and used alongside the other members of the Heron product family that offer other FPGA and DSP features.
Using the latest components the Heron-IO5 allows Hunt to provide more FPGA gates, faster digitisation and more output speed and resolution for the same price as the older Heron-IO2V.
The use of common interfaces and APIs means it is simple for a Heron-IO2 user to migrate to the Heron-IO5.
