The WizNET IIM7010 drop-in Ethernet module is available now from Hero Electronics

Based on the W3100A hardwired TCP/IP stack chip from WizNET, this module adds an Ethernet option to an existing microprocessor based design without the burden of running a TCP/IP software stack. Up to four independent connections can be supported simultaneously with dynamic buffer allocation for each channel, which enables a sustained loop-back performance of 8Mbit/s.

The module supports 10/100BaseT auto detection; other protocols supported are UDP, IP, ARP, ICMP, DCHP, ARP, DLC and Ethernet MAC.

The IIM7010 has the Ethernet socket onboard whilst the IM7000 option is available without the socket, which allows it to be conveniently located; for example on the back panel.

Four LEDs indicate the status of the Ethernet link.

Interfacing is simple, the IIM7010 offers a 16bit address and 8bit data transfers suitable for most CPUs.

The IIM7010 module is a compact 25 x 49mm and the IIM7000 is 25 x 25mm.

Each requires 3.3V; however the I/Os are 5V tolerant allowing their use in most designs.

Among the many applications for this module is remote access via the Internet or LANs; important in areas such as industrial automation, data gathering, instrumentation, medical devices, metering and card readers.
