The ProTek SLVU2.8, now available exclusively in the UK from Hunter Electronic Components, is a transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) device which combines low voltage, low leakage current and low capacitance. These properties make it ideally suited to the electrostatic discharge protection of low-voltage CMOS circuits in mobile handsets, PDAs and smart-card devices. The SLVU2.8 is housed in an SOT-23 plastic package, and can be placed at the connector input or alongside the sensitive IC component.

It can also be used across a single-ended data line for the protection of a single line.

The device is suitable for low signal-voltage applications because of its extremely low leakage current at the standby voltage of 2.8V, and it can be used in circuits for 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet applications.

Two parallel devices of opposite polarity can be used in bidirectional circuit applications.

The SLVU2.8 will provide protection in accordance with the requirements of IEC61000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2) for ESD, IEC61000-4-4 (EN61000-4-4) for EFT, and IEC61000-4-5 (EN61000-4-5) for surge protection.

It has a power rating of 400W for a surge waveform on 8/20us.

Additional filters can be added to provide both transient protection and EMI/RFI (noise) reduction for high-frequency and low-voltage applications.

Spice models and parameters are available for circuit simulation in design-in situations.
