An electronic identification module has been added to the Han range of industrial connectors from Harting

The new Han ID module has a built-in EEPROM that allows data to be stored for identification and coding purposes or for the storage of process parameters. The module, which is based on Harting's standard Han-E configuration, can be connected to the 24V digital I/O interface of a PLC. An I2C bus communicates data to the memory, which has a capacity of 128byte.

Typical data storied in the memory could be part numbers for identifying a machine tool or process parameters such as the number of working hours, operating temperature or error codes.

The new device is especially suited to use in modular machines and production lines, where the fact that the data is stored with the unit in non-volatile memory allows it to be re-located without risk of damage.

The facility for built-in storage of error data also greatly facilitates maintenance regimes, since the data can easily be analysed to provide optimum maintenance intervals and hence cost savings.
