The MP2000EV is a full MPEG-2 encoder evaluation system with both IP and DVB-ASI outputs. For under GBP 5000, Hitachi is providing the MP2000, power module and control GUI software. This breakthrough in pricing allows engineers to see for themselves how the MP2000 enables the design of compact, high quality, low delay MPEG-over-IP solutions.

At the heart of the system is NEL's SC2020E MPEG-2 encoder module, based on the proven SuperENC LSI.

The MP2000EV supports composite and S-video input, and SDI as an option, together with up to two stereo and four mono analogue audio inputs.

These are then compressed in real time and multiplexed into a true MPEG-2 transport stream (TS).

Output can be either SPI or DVB-ASI direct to an MPEG-2 decoder or a UDP packetised transport stream for delivery to a decoder device through Ethernet.

This single or multicast IP output allows MPEG-2 decoding on a single computer or Ethernet network.

The 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 module options in the system have been optimised to offer low delay encoding with latency of less than 36ms for encoding and less than 10ms for Ethernet packetisation.

The MP2000EV is extremely easy to control through the PC-based GUI with a simple user interface that includes stop, start commands and MPEG-2 parameter and IP setup.

Exhibiting further versatility, it also has the ability to run in "autostart" mode for immediate encoding start on power up.

With a mains power supply included, low power consumption and a small size, the MP2000EV is a complete, compact, reliable evaluation system at an affordable price.
