Available with 4 to 30 contacts, F08 connectors are also zero-insertion-force devices, simplifying assembly and minimising the risk of damage.

New from Harwin is the F08 series of surface-mount 0.8mm-pitch connectors for use with flexible printed circuits (FPCs) or flat conductor planar cables.

Supplied in tubes and tape and reel packaging with two contact variations - horizontal top and horizontal bottom - SMT metal solder-down tabs provide additional strain relief.

Available with 4 to 30 contacts, F08 connectors are also zero-insertion-force devices, simplifying assembly and minimising the risk of damage.

F08 connectors have a UL94V0-rated high-temperature thermoplastic housing and the copper alloy contacts are tin plated.

Devices are suitable for surface mount processing up to 235C for five seconds and offer a solder heat resistance of 260C for 10s, F08 connectors have a current rating of 0.5A, maximum contact resistance of 20mohm and minimum insulation resistance of 50Mohm.

Operating temperature range is -20 to +85C.

According to Wendy Bourne, Harwin's Technical Support Engineer: "The F08 provides great design flexibility for designers using FPC and planar conductor cables".

"The application base for this technology is expanding out from established areas such as consumer AV to digital equipment of all types, where reduced weight and flexible circuit interconnection provides benefits".
