Compilers top the PowerPC benchmarks
Multi compilers for IBM PowerPC 440GX and 440GP processors have outperformed competing compilers on benchmarks recently conducted by IBM and certified by EEMBC Certification Labs
With the publication of these results, Green Hills gains the distinction of being included with IBM in 19 of its 20 published performance benchmarks. EEMBC benchmarks have become a valuable tool for embedded designers and developers because they are comprised of diverse source code and scores are independently certified.

Green Hills Software is supporting the release of the Freescale i.MX27 multimedia applications processor with a full range of support products
Using five distinct market segments - telecomms, automotive/industrial, consumer, networking and office automation - the EEMBC benchmarks deliver results that reflect real-world application performance.
The IBM PowerPC 440GX processor contains several new features that significantly improve its performance over the 440GP processor.
The Green Hills compiler unlocked these features through optimisations such as effective use of multiply-accumulate (MAC) instruction set extensions, efficient pipeline scheduling and advanced register allocation.
"Green Hills Software's compilers took advantage of our architectural strengths to help us establish record-setting performance with our IBM PowerPC 440GX processor in all five EEMBC benchmark suites", said Kalpesh Gala, PowerPC Strategic Marketing Manager at IBM Microelectronics.
"The 440GX processors offer high-end capabilities tailored to the needs of high-performance embedded networking, communications and storage applications".
"EEMBC strives to provide system developers with real-world performance benchmarks to better equip them in making hardware and software choices", noted Markus Levy, EEMBC President.
"As developers are aware, care must be taken to evaluate and select development tools that take advantage of the highest performance capabilities of the architecture".
