Multi optimising compilers outperformed their competitors on benchmarks recently conducted by IBM and certified by EEMBC Certification Labs

Multi optimising compilers outperformed their competitors on benchmarks recently conducted by IBM and certified by EEMBC Certification Labs (ECL). The certified scores show Green Hills Software's C/C++ compilers lead the pack on 14 out of 15 performance benchmarks, some by 20%, for the IBM PowerPC 405GPr and 440GP processors.

EEMBC benchmarks have become an industry standard for evaluating the real-world capabilities of embedded processors and compilers using objective, clearly-defined, application-based criteria in five distinct market segments.

The IBM PowerPC 440GP and 405GPr processors were tested using all five EEMBC application-based benchmark suites including: automotive/industrial, consumer, networking, office automation and telecomms end products.

Green Hills Software's compilers produced faster code than compilers from GNU, Wind River Systems (Diab) and Metaware.

Moreover, these "out of the box" scores were produced by production-level Green Hills products shipping today to customers.

"With Green Hills Software's compilers, our PowerPC 440GP processor exceeded all other system-on-chip processors on four of the five EEMBC benchmark suites", said Kalpesh Gala, PowerPC Strategic Marketing Manager, IBM Microelectronics.

"EEMBC benchmarks are based on real-world code that indicates how our PowerPC 405GPr and 440GP processors work in our customers' applications.

Add these to the latest results on our 405GPr processor, and Green Hills Software's compilers produced the best results on 14 out of 15 of our EEMBC benchmarks.

"More EEMBC semiconductor members have chosen the Green Hills compiler to generate their EEMBC benchmark scores than any other compiler in the industry", said Markus Levy, EEMBC President.

Furthermore, the EEMBC Certification Lab confirmed that IBM's processors and the Green Hills compilers generated the scores according to EEMBC's regulations, giving extra credence to the processor's and compiler's capabilities".
