Software helps build
powerful jet engine
GE Aircraft Engines, a division of General Electric Company is using Green Hills Software's Multi development tools to build the world's most powerful jet aircraft engine
Multi and its optimising C compiler will help develop engine control software for the GE90-115B engine, which is rated to produce an unprecedented 115,000 pounds of thrust. The GE90-115B will be used exclusively to power Boeing's long-range 777-200LR and 777-300ER twin-engine aircraft. The engines produced by GE Aircraft Engines lead the commercial aviation industry in their respective thrust classes for reliability, maintainability and affordability.

The GE90-115B, a member of the GE90 family of engines, uses high-flow swept fan blades to enhance thrust and reduce fuel burn.
It also uses a high-efficiency, high-pressure compressor to achieve greater torque in the fan mid-shaft than any other jet engine.
The GE90-115B first underwent ground tests in November 2001, setting a new record for jet engine power at over 120,000 pounds of thrust.

Multi and the PowerPC optimising C compiler were used to develop the engine control software, which runs on a PowerPC processor in the Full-Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC).
The FADEC controls the temperature, speed, airflow and fuel flow of the engine, among other things.
Green Hills' Multi, together with the company's family of optimising C, C++, EC++, and Ada95 compilers, automates all aspects of embedded software development.
Featuring a window-oriented editor, source-level debugger, graphical program builder, and run-time error checker, Multi also includes a version control system, instruction set simulator, performance profiler, and real-time EventAnalyzer.
Multi is available for major 32 and 64bit RISC and CISC CPUs, as well as a number of popular DSPs.
Multi supports a variety of host/target connectivity options, including BDM and JTAG OCD (on-chip debugging) solutions, EST's visionICE, Agilent's Processor Probe, ARM's EmbeddedICE, and various ROM monitors.
Multi also supports the Green Hills Probe, the industry's fastest and most intelligent hardware debug probe for 32bit, 64bit and multiprocessor SoC embedded systems.
