Gennum Corp has appointed seasoned semiconductor industry business professional John McNicol as General Manager Europe, following a move by Mark Scott-South to take on new responsibilities in Canada.
Commenting on the appointment, Ian McWalter, President and CEO of Gennum, said, "John McNicol brings to Gennum's European operation 10 years of semiconductor sales and marketing experience.
His understanding of the market and the customers in the region will be enormously valuable to us".
McNicol added, "Gennum has an exceptional portfolio of solutions for video and high performance networking products and, even during the difficult times that the industry has recently experienced, has maintained its investment in R and D for these and new market areas.
I am truly excited to be joining them at this point".
John McNicol joins Gennum from Intarsia where he was Director of Marketing responsible for Intarsia's marketing worldwide.
Prior to this, McNicol headed the marketing team in the Wireless Business Unit of GEC Plessey Semiconductors (now Zarlink Semiconductor).
He has also served in sales and has been responsible for engineering support for semiconductor fabrication, packaging and testing at STC Semiconductors in the UK.
McNicol holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Nottingham University, where he also researched solid-state physics of semiconductor materials, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the UK's Open University.
