New standard definition SDI solutions that are pin-compatible with HD equivalents from Gennum allow designers to create an HD multirate board and then populate that board with SD parts to produce an SD product with no additional design effort. Gennum's new GS9060 deserialiser, GS9062 serialiser, GS9064 SDI adaptive cable equaliser and GS9068 SDI cable driver each support SD-SDI and DVB-ASI and are pin compatible with parts that support HD-SDI, SD-SDI and DVB-ASI. The GS9060 deserialiser and GS9062 serialiser implement complete SMPTE functionality including SMPTE (de)scrambling, word alignment and standards detection plus the insertion, error detection and correction of CRCs, TRSs, ANC data checksums, line numbers and EDH CRCs.

The pair implements complete DVB-ASI functionality by providing internal 8b/10b encoding and decoding and fill character insertion/detection.

Both parts support a bypass for non-SMPTE signals and provide the ability to enable and disable all individual features.

The GS9060 and GS9062 contain a cable driver for their serial outputs.

The GS9060 deserialiser contains an internal reclocker and provides dual serial digital input buffers with a 2 x 1 multiplexer.

The GS9064 equaliser and GS9068 cable driver are pin-compatible parts to their HD/SD multirate counterpart, the GS1524 multirate SDI adaptive cable equaliser and the GS1528 multirate SDI dual slew-rate cable driver.

The GS9064 and GS9068 are SMPTE259M-C compliant, use a 3.3V power supply and have the same first-rate performance as their multirate counterparts.
