Gennum has released an evaluation board featuring samples of its GS1532 serialiser and GS1560 deserialiser - the first such ICs to support HD, SD and DVB-ASI digital video standards including 8b/10b coding. The new evaluation board will help designers develop studio equipment supporting all three transport standards through a single interface. Part of Gennum's HD-Linx II family, the GS1532 serialiser and GS1560 deserialiser complement the company's leading HDTV solutions such as the GS1524 cable equaliser, GS1528 cable driver and GS1535 reclocker.

The serialiser and deserialiser are implemented in 0.18-micron CMOS for low power consumption and high integration.

This transmit and receive pair incorporates features such as SMPTE scrambling and descrambling, integrated word alignment, TRS and line-number insertion and checking, ANC support, internal flywheel and a bypass for non-SMPTE signals.

Inputs to the serialiser and outputs of the deserialiser can be a 10 or 20bit parallel bus at 13.5, 27, 74.25 or 148.5MHs.

The GS1560 deserialiser provides dual serial digital input buffers with a 2 x 1 multiplexer, has an internal reclocker and supports automatic or manual rate selection/indication.

Both chips contain an internal cable driver for their serial outputs.
