Dual-UART bridge chip speeds throughput
The OXmPCI952 is a highly versatile bridge chip that integrates two high performance UARTs, a 3.3V PCI/mini-PCI interface and a parallel port/local bus in a 160 LQFP package
128byte transmit and receive FIFOs on each channel enable the OXmPCI952 to reduce interrupts and boost speed. The new bridge IC boasts a sustained data throughput of 60Mbit/s in synchronous mode and 15Mbit/s in asynchronous mode. Designers are provided with two distinct modes of operation. Function 0 offers the fast dual UART capability, whereas Function 1 provides either an 8bit local bus or a bidirectional IEEE1284 parallel port supporting SPP, PS2, EPP and ECP protocols.

Ethernet reference design uses Atmel ARM7
The AT91-NET Ethernet card for Atmel EB40A and EB55 ARM development boards has been developed in response to customer demand for an Ethernet port on the ARM development environment
Serial card designs requiring more than two UART channels can be realised using the chip's 8bit passthrough local bus option, which allows the device to be cascaded to create up to 18 serial ports.
The OXmPCI952's UARTs are compatible with industry standard 16C550 devices, thus simplifying driver and hardware design.
Each UART has multiport features including shadowed FIFO levels, a global interrupt source register and a good-data status indicator.
Programmable threshold and fill level registers ensure comprehensive software control.
The chip's PCI interface is fully compliant with PCIbus version 3.0 and PCI power management version 1.1 specifications.
Manufactured by Oxford Semiconductor the OXmPCI952 is supported by software drivers for Windows NT and XP, and Mac OSX.
Third-party Linux drivers are also available.
GD Technik can provide designers with a PCI card design note, PCB schematics and a range of application notes.
