Wireless tutorials at GSPx 2005 will cover WiMAX, ZigBee, UWB and wireless LANs

Three wireless tutorials at GSPx 2005 will cover WiMAX, ZigBee, UWB and wireless LANs. GSPx, the signal processing conference and expo, will take place from 24th to 27th October 2005 at the Santa Clara Convention Centre in California. 'Wireless technology is pervasive in our daily lives, with people accessing content at work, home, in their cars and even on airplanes', said Dr Amnon Aliphas, GSPx Chair.

'These tutorials will provide attendees with direct access to the latest developments'.

The WiMAX tutorial will cover WiMAX for the fixed wireless access application and the underlying principles of mobile broadband access based on IEEE802.16.

Naftali Chayat, Chief Scientist with Alvarion, will lead the tutorial.

Since 1993, Chayat has helped develop wireless standards including IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.16.

Patrick Kinney will lead the UWB and ZigBee tutorial.

He will review standards and technologies from ZigBee Alliance and ultrawideband initiatives including WiMedia, wireless USB and the UWB Forum.

Previously, Kinney was VP of Communication Technologies at Invensys.

He is the co-Vice Chair and Secretary of the IEEE802.15 working group for wireless personal area networks and Secretary of ZigBee Alliance.

Dr Benny Bing of the Georgia Institute of Technology will deliver the advances in wireless local area networks tutorial.

He will: introduce wireless LANs; cover radio spectrum trends, physical layer transformation, MAC protocols, network topologies, security, switches and deployment; summarise current 802.11 standards; and discuss new 802.11 initiatives focusing on high-speed MIMO systems, intelligent wireless systems and wireless mesh networks.

Bing has authored more than 40 papers and eight books.

His book on wireless LANs was adopted by Cisco Systems to launch the Cisco-Aironet Wi-Fi product, which has captured more than 60% of the Wi-Fi market share.
