Two distinctly different WEEE compliance schemes operating in the business-to-business sector have taken a joint approach to their strategy for achieving best value solutions for their members. The schemes have placed a joint advertisement in this week's recycling industry press inviting expressions of interest from logistics and recycling companies. Lumicom, an initiative of the Lighting Industry Federation, which has over 70 members, will be taking on its members' responsibilities for non-household luminaires (Category 5 in the WEEE Directive) and B2B Compliance, an initiative of the Gambica trade association, which has over 200 members, is focused on monitoring and control instrumentation (Category 9), medical devices (Category 8) and related IT equipment (Category 3).

Both Chief Executives, Geoff Young of Gambica, and Ernest Magog of LIF, expressed support for their mutual strategy: 'While the schemes will operate independently to meet their own members' legal obligations it can only be of mutual benefit to exploit the synergies of using joint logistics and recycling facilities'.

Both schemes, which are now members of the not-for-profit sector European WEEE Forum, are using the services of strategic environmental consultants and WEEE experts, Strateco, which will carry out the tendering process on their behalf.
