New from Fujikura Europe, the FID-20 optical fibre identifier is a simple-to-use handheld real-time operational data detector for technicians installing and maintaining fibre links. This noninvasive tool detects the optical transmissions (the light power presence) in a single-mode optical fibre in real-time, saving time and money compared with other conventional systems. Complementary to Fujikura's range of splicer products - this battery operated instrument detects light from a fibre, by bending it, using a clamping device called a 'plunger' equipped at the head of the identifier.
The plunger forms macro-bending of the fibre for obtaining the leak light, which is then detected by the photosensors in the unit.
The unit has an LCD and LED indicators, that shows the presence of several kinds of light signal with their traffic directions (signal direction is discriminated): such as CW or with 1kHz, 2kHz or 270Hz tone signal, in wavelengths of 1310 or 1550nm - or no signal.
This sophisticated, lightweight tool has a long head style for easy fibre clamping in limited workspaces.
It is applicable for 0.25 and 0.9mm coated fibre, up to 3mm fibre cord (optional extra plunger for 3mm fibre cord) and up to 12 fibres ribbon.
The estimating capability of light power levels in the fibre and the optical power meter function are accurate within +/-0.3dB.
Ian Tweedle, Business Development Manager, for Fujikura Europe says: 'During installations, maintenance, rerouting and restorations it is often necessary to isolate fibres without disrupting service - this well engineered tool is an invaluable asset for every technician's tool kit'.
The FID-20 series is available with or without an optical power meter.
The standard package includes: plunger, light shield rubber, one connector head and instruction manual.
Optional extras include: plunger for 3mm fibre cords, power adapter and cord, and range of additional connector heads.
