Forge Europa is to lead a GBP 1.27 million project to develop nanophosphors for displays and lighting applications which has attracted in excess of GBP 500,000 of funding from the DTI through its new Micro and nanotechnology Manufacturing Initiative. The project was one of only 25 awarded out of more than 600 applications.
Announcing the grants, the UK Department of Trade and Industry spokesman said: "Nanotechnology is an important and exciting emerging technology, one that has the capacity to improve daily life for us all".
"It is about designing new products and improving existing ones by making things smaller, faster, stronger or more energy efficient".
LED technology is a key scientific discipline of the early 21st century and the project aim is to produce high quality white light using GaN based UV LEDs with nanoparticulate RGB phosphors, giving better colour rendition and also addressing major issues of performance and efficiency.
