DAB chip shipments top a million: News from Frontier Silicon

Frontier Silicon has now shipped a million of its DAB digital radio SoC devices, the Chorus IC. The chip and derivative module products are currently at the heart of over 50 different digital radio products that enable DAB functionality, including the latest products from Teac, Philips, Grundig, Hitachi, Sharp, Sony, Roberts and Pure Digital. Anthony Sethill, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Silicon said: "Within just two years, Chorus (and the Chorus-based Venice module) has now become the industry standard for digital radio products - in handheld, kitchen radio, and emerging in-car audio systems".

"With these products we have been able to significantly reduce the design time and cost of manufacture for our customers, allowing new differentiated products to be brought to market rapidly for the growing base of digital radio listeners".

He added: "Frontier Silicon is very proud that our first IC has been a key catalyst in the development of the new digital radio market in the UK, and expect it to perform a similar role in other markets such as Germany, Italy and Spain over the next two years".
