64bit processing speeds electromagnetic analysis

Flomerics reckons it has ushered in a new era in 3D electromagnetic simulation with the release of the 64bit parallel versions of its FLO/EMC V1.2 and Micro-Stripes V6.0.

Flomerics has ushered in a new era in 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulation with the advent of the 64bit parallel versions of Flomerics' FLO/EMC V1.2 and Micro-Stripes V6.0. This allows models requiring more than 2Gbyte of memory (maximum addressable memory capability of a 32bit processor) to be analysed on multiple processor 64bit architecture machines, saving EM engineers considerable computational time without losing any of the software's functionality. The software has already shown its potential within the automotive and defence industries where, even with Flomerics' highly efficient TLM (transmission line matrix) analysis engine, the restrictions of 32bit architectures were starting to impose limitations on the size of extremely complex models that could be solved.

The move to a 64bit architecture increases the limit of an EM analysis from 2Gbyte (with 32-bit architecture) to over nine million terabytes, an effectively limitless model size.

This makes it possible to analyse a multielement array antenna in its installed environment such as a car or aircraft to ascertain the full effects on the EM performance.

Rachid Aitmehdi, Head of Electromagnetic Division, Flomerics, said, "This is a significant advance in large scale EM modelling.

The move to 64bit architecture effectively gives access to limitless memory resources.

When combined with the efficiencies that Flomerics' TLM modelling engine gives over other methods, the 64bit versions of FLO/EMC and Micro-Stripes increase significantly the complexity of the EM analyses that can be undertaken by our clients".

FLO/EMC from Flomerics is a powerful computational tool for analysing EM fields in and around electronic systems and components.

Micro-Stripes is Flomerics' computational EM analysis software for the design and optimisation of antenna and microwave devices.
