Farnell UK has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2002. In addition, its parent company, Premier Farnell Group, has been selected as one of the 2002 BT Vision 100 Index, which identifies the 100 most innovative UK organisations that have achieved strategic goals through visionary activity. The Queen's Award has been given to Farnell UK in the category of Outstanding Achievement in International Trade.
This recognises Farnell's substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success, to levels that are outstanding for the goods and services it provides.
The BT Vision 100 Index, created by BT, in association with the Cranfield School of Management and The Guardian, examines five areas - visionary leadership, visionary HR management, corporate social responsibility, intellectual asset management and the 'connected' enterprise.
Commenting on Premier Farnell's listing in the 2002 Index, John Hirst, Group CEO, Premier Farnell, says: "Innovation and vision have defined Premier Farnell, particularly since 1999 when the company began its 'Investment for Growth' programme, to transform itself from a 'one solution fits all' approach into a highly customer-oriented, powerful leader in global B2B distribution.
The company has successfully married its traditional strengths with the new economy, by investment in leading e-commerce technology to increase channels to market.
The BT Vision 100 Index clearly recognises the Group's continuing drive to innovate and improve its services to its customer base".
Commenting on Farnell's Queen's Award, Angus Fraser, CEO, Premier Farnell Europe and Asia-Pacific, says: "To win a Queen's Award is a fantastic achievement and a tribute to the hard work of all employees across the world.
Farnell is increasingly responsive to individual markets, tailoring its services for each customer.
At the same time, we've been investing in leading edge e-commerce technology to increase our channels to market.
Farnell has established itself as a leader in e-procurement to support key clients such as BAE Systems, Exostar and Covisint.
As a result, we've been able to take full advantage of all opportunities to build sales and develop major accounts, which has led us to today's announcement.
Farnell will continue to strengthen its market position and we look forward to increasing our global reach still further".
