Serdes devices sort
out high-speed interfaces

Four new LVDS serialisers and deserialisers offer a high bandwidth of more than 1.75Gbit/s and retain the traditional benefits of LVDS, including reduced EMI, low power consumption and good noise immunity. Fairchild's new devices solve EMI and cable size problems associated with wide, high-speed TTL interfaces that are commonly found in a range of communications, computing, industrial and automotive applications.

Low-voltage dual-supply voltage translator increases design flexibility by allowing designers to control the direction of each bit individually
Fairchild serialisers (FIN1215, FIN1217) convert parallel LVTTL to serial LVDS, and the deserialisers (FIN1216, FIN1218) convert serial LVDS back to parallel LVTTL.
Typically used as a matching serdes pair, these devices provide 21:3bit compression that facilitates more efficient, economical designs in terms of fewer traces and connectors, lower cable counts and less board space.
This lowers total system cost while simplifying system design.

With an industrial temperature range of -40 to +80C, the serdes devices operate in extreme elements, which is particularly important for wireless base stations.
According to Chris Ferland, LVDS Marketing Manager: "Fairchild offers a complete line of LVDS devices including drivers, receivers, repeaters, crosspoint switches, flat panel display drivers, and now serdes.
These devices offer an alternate source with reliability advantages including wider input voltage tolerance and higher ESD".
Available in 48-lead TSSOP packaging in rail or tape-and-reel format, typical Fairchild serdes applications include: wireless basestations; stackable Ethernet switches; broadband infrastructure; backplane interconnects; multifunction printers, scanners, copiers; automated test equipment; automotive displays; and entertainment.
The introduction of these LVDS serdes devices expands Fairchild's offering for communications designs.
For example, in wireless basestation designs, the LVDS serdes devices complement the Fairchild offering of data convertors (ADC and DAC) with bit resolution ranging from 8 to 16bit and convertor rates up to 250MHz.
These serdes products offer a lead-free (Pb-free) option.
