The team in Fuerstenfeldbruck is led by Dr Michael Weirich, a PhD engineering manager with significant power design experience, recruited from a major European OEM.
The Centre of Excellence is supported by 14 highly qualified systems and applications engineers together with four component engineers.
Brent Rowe, Vice President of Sales in Europe for Fairchild Semiconductor said: "Our objective is to provide a complete power design solution utilising multimarket products from Fairchild.
We aim to improve performance, reduce part count, reduce inventory costs, improve time to market and enhance design functionality.
Examples of the kind of improvements we have already achieved include the reduction in part count in a colour TV power supply from 200 to 60 devices; a 60% reduction in board space for an automotive ignition control system; and implementing an ultraslim power supply design for an LCD TV.
Able to turn around designs as quickly as two weeks, the Fuerstenfeldbruck centre will provide customers with fully engineered solutions, including demo boards; detailed information for bills of materials; and turnkey designs, including Orcad and GerberEx files that can be incorporated into their own solutions; and application notes.
The Fuerstenfeldbruck lab is one of six such centres opened by Fairchild worldwide.
