Modelling methodology improves interface accuracy
Fairchild Semiconductor's EnSigna Lab modelling experts have developed an improved IBIS model generation methodology for its LVDS interface IC portfolio
Using this new methodology improves LVDS IBIS model accuracy resulting in reliable simulation results and dependable real world correlation. LVDS devices are used in multiple backplane and interconnect applications in communications, computing and consumer equipment. LVDS devices provide high speed interconnect and are therefore key in achieving system bandwidth.

These applications require highly accurate correlation of models to actual system performance to enable system optimisation.
Due to the differential nature of LVDS I/O, existing IBIS model generation techniques fail to account for the interdependence of the complementary output structures.
EnSigna engineers add biasing elements external to the LVDS device in HSpice models to assure consistent operating conditions for each of the complementary outputs.

Design engineers use LVDS IBIS models to validate device and system performance before-and during-design phases.
"Providing modelling engineers and designers with improved accuracy allows them to optimise system performance while reducing their risk and time-to-market", says Matt Johnson, Fairchild's LVDS product manager.
The new LVDS IBIS models are available free of charge from Fairchild's EnSigna Lab and EnSigna Web.
To encourage adoption of the improved modelling techniques, Adam Tambone, developer and presenter, will be at DesignCon 2002.
In addition, Tambone will meet with the IBIS working group next week to review his techniques and findings.
The EnSigna Lab continues to offer advances in simulation and is staffed by industry experts in the optimisation of throughput and signal integrity for advanced applications.
EnSigna Web services are free of charge and accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
