Dynamic diode duo
improve TV horizontal voltage
New from Fairchild Semiconductor, the FFPF60B150DS is a copackaged damper and modulation diode pair for improving horizontal voltage control in colour televisions and monitors
Housed in a fully isolated TO-220 package, the two chips are rated at 1500 (damper diode) and 600V (modulation diode) for high reliability, and feature high-speed switching and low conduction losses. The rectangular picture in TVs and monitors can experience an effect called pillow distortion.

To compensate for this distortion and improve picture quality, a correction driver in the horizontal output stage modulates the horizontal deflection current in phase with the vertical deflection current.
This horizontal deflection current is obtained from the voltage across a modulation diode.
The FFPF60B150DS contains both the damper diode in the horizontal output stage and the modulation diode, connected in series with a centre tap to access the voltage across the modulation diode.
The forward voltage drop of the modulation diode is 2.2V maximum at 20A.
For the damper diode, the forward voltage drop is 1.6V maximum at 6A.
The reverse recovery time is 90ns maximum for the modulation diode and 170ns maximum for the damper diode.
The reverse recovery times specified for the diode pair are among the lowest guaranteed ratings.
The FFPF60B150DS is available in the TO-220F Co-Pak, fully isolated package.
