Tester characterises and troubleshoots bandwidth-intensive commercial and residential access networks, regardless of media used.

Available now from Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering is the AXS-200 SharpTester Access Line for characterising and troubleshooting bandwidth-intensive commercial and residential access networks As network service providers (NSPs) respond to growing consumer demand for communication and entertainment applications with triple-play service packages, they are faced with a difficult decision in their access networks: leverage the existing copper plant with DSL technologies, deploy fibre to the premises or combine both solutions

Regardless of the choice, Exfo has developed a ground-breaking product offering that meets all NSP access testing needs for a wide range of services like VoIP, IPTV, ISP-over-fibre or copper, with a whole suite of test technologies like Ethernet, copper bandwidth etc.

The AXS-200 SharpTester Access Line - built around a modular, multiservice, multimedium, handheld platform - can easily be configured for copper/DSL/triple-play, Ethernet or optical testing applications using a common Windows-CE graphical user interface.

This latest innovation by Exfo significantly reduces training time, allowing both expert and entry-level technicians to quickly begin testing duties, and streamlines testing procedures for rapid and efficient service turn-ups.

A brand new series of xDSL/triple-play (AXS-200/620 ADSL2+) and Ethernet (AXS-200/850 Ethernet) test modules is readily available for the AXS-200 SharpTester, and copper and optical test solutions will be introduced in upcoming months.

"As triple-play services are deployed on all-fibre and hybrid architectures and bandwidth requirements mount unabated, network service providers are looking for new test solutions to efficiently and easily turn up commercial and residential access networks", says Etienne Gagnon, Exfo's Vice-President of Telecom Product Development and Marketing.

"The AXS-200 SharpTester Access Line was designed with this new challenge in mind and leverages a wide range of best-in-class test technologies and expertise acquired through the development of its unique FTB-200 and FTB-400 platforms and family of test modules".

"This latest test platform provides field personnel with the flexibility to test various services on multiple mediums and the scalability to accommodate new technologies through a platform-based approach".

As with all of Exfo's handheld test solutions, particular emphasis has been placed on user-friendliness.

One-touch test functions are available for fast, error-free results.

Clear pass/fail assessments are displayed on a transflective colour screen for improved visibility.

And advanced data analysis and post-processing features offer a comprehensive view and simplified interpretation of all key results.
